If you want to explore Morehead beyond the usual spots, the forest has many quiet places to enjoy. The hike up Lockegee Rock gives you some of the best views in the area, and you won’t have to deal with big crowds. It’s a great place to watch the sunrise or spend a peaceful afternoon.
Rodburn Hollow Park is another hidden gem in Rowan County. Many visitors miss it as they head to other bigger trails, but locals love it for its peaceful paths and quiet picnic spots.

Morehead offers you the chance to enjoy local creativity without waiting in long lines. The Kentucky Folk Art Center is a great example. It’s more than a museum—it’s a lively space filled with the unique and powerful work of Appalachian artists. Visiting is one of those underrated experiences in Morehead that you’ll remember.
If you enjoy history, be sure to visit the Morehead History and Railroad Museum. It’s located in a well-preserved freight station and gives you a close look at how the railroad helped shape our town, away from the crowds of bigger attractions.
Local Flavors and Unique Stops
To really get to know a place, visit the spots locals love. For a good cup of coffee and a quiet place to read, we go to The Fuzzy Duck inside CoffeeTree Books. It’s a favorite spot in Morehead to relax and look through a great selection of books and gifts.
Later in the day, be sure to visit Sawstone Brewing Co. This local favorite offers craft beers in a laid-back setting where it’s easy to strike up a conversation. These places are more than just businesses—they feel like the living rooms of our community.
